Meerkat Fun Facts
Meerkats live in large family groups called mobs or clans, often with up to 30 members
They take turns acting as lookouts, standing tall on their hind legs to watch for danger while the rest of the group forages or plays
They’re excellent diggers - a single meerkat can dig its own body weight in sand in just a few seconds
A group of baby Meerkats is called a litter, and they start venturing out of the burrow at around three weeks old

Shrinking homes - As farms and towns grow, Meerkats are losing parts of their natural habitat. More people means fewer safe spaces to dig and hunt
Predators and dangers - Big birds, snakes, and jackals are all natural predators, but vehicles and human development have added extra risks near their desert homes
Climate challenges - Hotter, drier weather makes it harder for Meerkats to find insects and plants to eat, and long droughts can threaten whole families

Your adoption is for 12 months
How long does it take to receive my adoption pack?
You will receive your adoption pack in the mail within 10 days
Is this tax deductible?
Yes, your donation is tax deductible and you will receive a tax receipt at the end of the financial year
How can I renew when my adoption ends?
We’d love for you to continue your support by renewing your adoption. When your current adoption is coming to an end, we’ll send you a reminder. You can choose to adopt the same animal again or select a different one to support.
